She is a member of the royal family of Hyrule and is often depicted as a damsel in distress, in need of rescue from the game's protagonist, Link. However, in later iterations of the series, Zelda is shown to be a capable and strong-willed leader, with magical abilities and a deep knowledge of Hyrule's history and legends.
